from Tuesday, 6 January 2026 to Friday, 26 June 2026Discussion workshop: our colonial legacy, from 14 years old
Visite commentéeEthnography Museum of Geneva
Secondary I & II
Students choose a topic for discussion from a list of themes linked to the museum's collections. A short visit to the permanent exhibition enables them to understand how this theme resonates with the exhibitions.
Representations and stereotypes: How do images inherited from colonisation influence our perception of cultures and minorities?
Inequalities and discrimination: What links exist between current injustices and colonial history?
Cultural appropriation: What does it mean to appropriate elements of another culture without respecting their meaning?
Decolonising knowledge: How can we rethink the histories and ideas taught by listening to other perspectives?
Responsibility and reparation: What can museums do to repair the harm done by the past? After exploring the chosen topic, the students reflect together, in a cooperative way, for about an hour, using a fun discussion tool. The guides and teachers facilitate the dialogue without participating directly.
By encouraging open and respectful dialogue, it raises young people's awareness of the importance of deconstructing colonial images in order to promote a fairer and more inclusive society.

Racism and museums: let's discuss it, from 14 years old

from Friday, 9 January 2026 to Friday, 19 June 2026Racism and museums: let's discuss it, from 14 years old
Racisme et muséeEthnography Museum of Geneva
Secondary I & II
A visit during which a discussion space is opened up to address the issue of racism by evoking the role of the museum institution in its construction, and inviting participants to question their own posture towards racism. Through various activities that encourage observation and reflexivity, participants reflect on how "races" have been invented and justified by institutions such as museums, through the construction of the image of the other, the strange, the exotic, which feeds differentiation and the prejudices at the root of discrimination mechanisms. Students will also understand the role and position of Switzerland in the global history of modern racism (in relation to colonization and slavery) and how these representations are perpetuated and socially transmitted to us.
Visits are led by the association Dialogue en route.
